The Applied Linguistics Association of Australia (ALAA) is the national organisation for applied linguistics in Australia. ALAA aims to provide leadership in applied linguistics and supports the development of teaching, learning and research in the field. ALAA includes national and international members and is affiliated with the Association Internationale de Linguistique Appliquée (AILA).

ALAA’s activities include:

    • promotion of research and teaching in applied linguistics
    • support for public development of policy in relation to language issues
    • hosting an annual conference
    • producing the journal Australian Review of Applied Linguistics
    • providing scholarships for student research in applied linguistics
    • joint sponsorship of the Australian Linguistics Institute with the  
Australian Linguistic Society
  • advocating on members behalf to government and other bodies
